State Registration Cards Are No Longer Required as of July 1, 2022 (under HB933)

A piece of fantastic news is coming from the Virginia Government!
“Registration cards are no longer required in Virginia.”
HB933 in Virginia eradicates the requirements for qualified patients, legal guardians, and parents to register as a patient with the Pharmacy Board.
This rule will be effective from July 1, 2022, stating a written recommendation obtained from a state-licensed medical doctor for accessing the medical cannabis treatment will be required only that needs to be presented at the licensed dispensaries.
The visit to dispensaries and accessing medical cannabis products will require the following only:
- A written recommendation obtained from a state-licensed medical doctor
- A government-issued ID Card.
The modification in the rule states the relaxation for Virginia patients.
Let us check what difference this new notification made!
What Were the Criteria Before July 1?
Before July 1, 2022, the qualified patients, legal guardians, or parents were mandatorily required to present the following:
- A written recommendation obtained from a state-licensed medical doctor
- Registering as a patient with the state
- A medical marijuana card
- And a government-issued ID Card
To obtain medical cannabis products from medical dispensaries.
And due to these registration processes, the patient had to wait for the upcoming 60 business days for the approval response.
And the applications submitted before 1/7/2022 will continue to be processed.
What Change did this New Notification Bring?
With this new amendment, qualified medical marijuana patients, legal guardians, or parents will no longer be required to register as a patient with the Board of Pharmacy.
Bravo! Only a written recommendation from a licensed medical practitioner for accessing medical cannabis treatment will be enough.
All you need is
- A written recommendation obtained from a registered practitioner
- A govt-issued ID card
- And you can have trouble freely accessing medical cannabis products.
Essentials To Note!
A qualified patient, a parent, or a legal guardian may acquire medical cannabis products as defined in §54.1-3408-3 of the Virginia state code, which has received a written recommendation from the Virginia Board of Pharmacy registered doctor.
The written recommendation must be obtained from a registered practitioner with the Board of Pharmacy.
Final Takeaway!
This change in the medical cannabis industry in Virginia will lead to a faster process and even easier access to medical cannabis treatment.
